Overall, the Enterprise I.T. industry finished with good results in Q4 2011.
HP, who has been criticized for their flip flopping like a bad politician, laid out a Road Map for their Open Source WebOS and introduced new ProLiant systems featuring AMD Opteron™ Processors which have greater integer performance and 40% greater floating-point performance than comparable processors at about 40% less cost.
Intel announced it is acquiring QLogic’s Infiniband business for $125 million in cash in order to improve its high-performance computing and high-speed networking technology portfolio. This move is another step in the HPC direction after Intel announced in November new motherboards and chassis targeting high performance computing.
EMC is riding their brilliant acquisition of VMware which grew 27 percent during the quarter to a solid 32 percent in profit. With the plans for the downsizing of 800 Federal datacenters by 2015, EMC looks in great shape.
Two companies that took it on the chin in Q4 are AMD which reported a loss of $177 million and Juniper Networks which had sales below expectations.
But not to fret, AMD’s since their server segment and graphics segments were up 27% and 10% respectively. The key culprit was manufacturing delays at the German based GlobalFoundries business.
Juniper’s sales were off in Q4 and projecting lower Q1 revenue mostly to having their eggs in too few baskets. Namely AT&T, which due to the failed takeover of T-Mobile USA, caused demand to stall. Juniper has a great product and is energized their reseller base with their first global partner conference last week.
All-in-all, onward and upward for the Enterprise I.T. marketplace!
